Acute and chronic prostatitis discussion. Arnon Krongrad, MD, moderator.

I am 26 years old.

I was getting ill every weekend although when I took my temperature I noticed I was actually below my normal body temperature of ~98. I was at 96 and would sometimes go as low as 95.5. It felt like I had a fever.

I dealt with this for around a month, attributing it to stress. However I started feeling pain in my testicle during this time and I was peeing more than usual. The pain only lasted around 15 minutes or so. I decided to go to my university doctor and get checked out (i am uninsured). He was not sure what was wrong until I told him I felt slight pain in my testicle. Once he felt my testicles were fine, he did a rectal exam. The pain was very bad and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. The fluid that came out of my penis burned very badly too.

My urine and blood came back negative but he gave me a months worth of bactrim ds. Now that same 'malaise' is back. I am not sure if I was misdiagnosed, I would like to see a urologist however seeing as how I am waiting for a job I am going to wait this one out for the health plan.

If I am barely feeling any testicular pain and pain while urinating, then could I possibly have been misdiagnosed? All I am feeling is that weekly malaise. Maybe I have 2 ailments?
