Prostatitis Forum & Social Network

Acute and chronic prostatitis discussion. Arnon Krongrad, MD, moderator.

In the last 24 hours, two patients independently reported that their prostatitis symptoms, which they characterized as unrelenting and severe, began after they had transurethral prostatectomy (TURP) for benign enlargement.

This seems somewhat ironic given that so many patients with prostatitis have been treated with TURP for prostatitis. In those cases with which I am acquainted, the TURP was ineffective, although subsequent laparoscopic prostatectomy did relieve the symptoms.

Have you had a TURP? What was it for?
Did it trigger or intensify prostatitis symptoms?

Did it relieve prostatitis symptoms?
