What is your score on the Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (posted on home page)?
20 at idle, 30+ with flare-up
If you have been diagnosed with prostatitis, please tell us your story: age, duration of symptoms, treatments, results, and the like.
I am a 33 year old who was "officially diagnosed" with Prostatitis in 4/10. It started with a bout of Epididymis, and quickly moved to my prostate. I was on Bactrim, Amoxicillin and now Doxycycline for over 8 weeks. Nothing is seeming to work and my symptoms wax and wane, but never completely leave. They range from:
-urinary burning
-urinary urgency and increased frequency
-CONSTANT burning in urethra
-"golf ball" feeling in rectum
-sore tail bone
-sore penis after ejaculation or when stimulated
I have been to the ER twice, been to two urologists, had a retrograde urethrogram (negative for anything) and had a CT that did not show kidney stones, but did show "mildly enlarged prostate with central calcification and mild mass effect on the bladder." I never did find out if that means it is "benignly enlarged" or just inflamed.
From what i been told, if your having your prostate removed at a young age, its not a good idea. It affects your sex drive.
Unless you have prostate cancer, thats a different story.
When i mean young, i meant 50 and under.
hey, mike. i understand your frustration about your prostate. but once it goes , it goes.
i would say if you have cancer in the prostate at your age remove it. there is a lot of research being done on prostatitis. i think that finding a doctor that expects the challenge of an inflamed prostate would be a good choice. although i seen at least a dozen or more of doctors, i finally found one that
works with me and my symptoms. he did a urodynamics test on me and was able to figure out, why, i am having pelvic pain. the muscles of my bladder are working against the pelvic muscles.
i am getting therapy for that. and thats just the begining.
