Acute and chronic prostatitis discussion. Arnon Krongrad, MD, moderator.
There are some papers on it for benign prostate enlargement, which is not prostatitis.
I have to say that I'm more than a little disappointed on how people have responded to my question. I understand the frustration, pain, and mental distress that comes with prostatitis. But going off does not reduce one's stress level. Which most of us know is a trigger to our condition.
Nobody's response with the exception of Dr. Krongrad comes remotely close to commenting on my question.
Blake, we don't know the cause, although going through normal male puberty seems a necessary step. In some inherited anomalies, e.g. 5-alpha reductase deficiency, the prostate and BPH do not develop, which implicates dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a testosterone metabolite, as a required hormone
It makes sense given that you need puberty and its surge of testosterone to help develop the prostate, but has anyone looked into this avenue? This I have not seen.
