have tried cyproxin, am taking saw palmetto, akalizers, vitamin c, fish oil, been for colonic hydrotherapy, completely changed my diet..etc.. going for a cystoscopy..also ridded myself of parasites that i picked up in asia.. crazy shit man..
when the prostate becomes enflamed, i get dizzy spells, short term memory loss, agitated and sometimes irrational.. i pray for things to get better and keep away from stressful situations as best i can.. im over it.. has been going going on for months and months and i just cant stop the pain... it may leave me for a day or so and just when i think its going to get better, it comes back..i dont mean to come across like a victim.. there isnt anybody that really understands other than a fellow sufferer and lets face it, nobody likes to talk about it or doctors, who unfortunately are unable to give a straight answer due to the complex nature of the prostate..

Hi Jake,

Welcome to the network.

Do I understand correctly that your CPSI score is 32?

If you are open to it please "edit" your profile and photo on your My Page. This will help others more precisely interact with you. Such things as age, duration of symptoms will help.

Who is taking care of you now?

Thank you.

Not sure if you're near Darlinghurst, but I was walking by a hospital there when a bird pooped on my head. The Aussies told me that's a sign of good luck.

not far from darlinghurst and yes, hahaha its supposed to be a sign of good luck.. it happens alot here, which could explain why we get called the lucky country :).. im guessing that the hospital that you could have been walking by was st vincents ?

question : is this prostate issue, something that i am stuck with for life?

Yes. I think St Vincent's. We were walking to the Darlinghurst market, I think on a Saturday morning.

Prostatitis is not necessarily a lifelong problem. However, many patients have symptoms, including very severe symptoms, for years and even decades. Have a look at the stories of Dave, Merlin, and Ike to get a sense of the severity in some cases.

Interesting post to imnotcrazy. I am not aware of any data to support the steps outlined. For example, I am not aware of any data to show that to "alkalinize" the body is in any way useful in treating the symptoms of prostatitis. However, you do touch on a critically important concept: coping. How do men cope with the sometimes seemingly endless burden of prostatitis? Maybe it's time to start a group on coping strategies, to explore such subjects as prayer, yoga, exercise, and the like. What do you think? Do you want to start the group? If you do, I'll show you how and also how to get discussions going. Let me know.

I am sorry I can not help you with this one. However, what I do know is that the few doctors who are doing radical prostatectomies for chronic prostatitis are finding a very high occurance of cancer. The numbers of these operations are quite low. However, the few doctors doing these operations talk to each other and I have heard #'s as high as 80%. Dr Krongrad would be a better person to ask as he has first hand experieince.

All right, so this is great. You're going to start a group on ways to cope with prostatitis.

First of all, let's make you more presentable. Please go back to your My Page and load in a photo. You'll be much more memorable that way.

Secondly, please go to the Groups tab and click on +Add a Group in the upper right. Pick a name, like "Coping With Prostatitis."

You'll need to load in an image that will forever be associated with the group. So click here to see how we did it with the "Coping with Prostate Cancer" group on another network.

Put in a description, which will always appear at the top. Something like "For discussion what we can do to feel better while suffering with prostatitis: diet, meditation, yoga, exercise, prayer ...." You can then pretty well ignore the rest of the fields.

Once the group is complete you can invite other members to join from inside it. And you can +Start Discussion (under the photo) on any topic you like that relates to coping.

Hi Doctor,

I hope that all is well with you.. Have been offline for a little while and have some new information that may be of interest..

I went for a cystoscopy last Tuesday ( btw i loved being under general until it began to wear off - everything was so damn good)

I will have the results later this week..

The interesting information is this, my doctor has opted for the eastern appraoch and has explained that bio mechanics play a role in chronic prostatitis.. i have some orthotics on order and will let you know how it goes..

Also, he has begun using acupuncture as a remedy which I did for the first time today. I will be having 10 treatments over 5 weeks ( x 2 per week)..

I have stuck with the fish oil, saw palmetto etc for the last few months and feel great apart from the discomfort in the prostate area ( which has subsided)..

The nurse did mention that they found a stricture in my urethra which may have caused the prostatitis.. Will have more information when the report is released.. My doctor argues that it is the inflamed prostate that causes the stricture..

Either way, the natural approach so far ( other than the cystoscopy and cyproxin in the early stages of diagnosis) have been less invasive and generally, a better feeling of health..

I looked at you recent blog regarding the incidents of cancer in prostatitis sufferers.. Is there by any chance, during the cystoscopy and if a biopsy was taken, that they could miss cancerous cells?

Thank you for your time..

Great update. Thank you.

Sure, biopsy can miss cancer. Why are you worried about cancer? PSA? Family history?
