TURP, TUIP or BNI prior to LRP, is it a problem for the surgeon during LRP operation?

Many of us during our prostatitis course (including myself) got some urinary obtruction issues, most of the time doctors propose a TURP, TUIP or BNI to get rid of it.

We know today that those surgeries are not effective against prostatitis pain but they can clear the urinary symptoms up.

do these surgeries make the LRP surgeon work more complicated? can they increase the recovery period for urinary continence and potency?....in fact do they affect the outcome of the LRP surgery?

The procedures you list generally do not affect the LRP at all. On rare occasion a "radical" TURP may really scar up the bladder neck and cause the anatomical landmarks to become blurred, but not to the point at which it becomes a barrier to successful LRP. In fact, such was the case this week with a patient who had a "radical" TURP. Very very scarred but in the end he did just great. Other than the pathologist had a prostate with a big hole in the middle of it. :-)

In any event, any patient contemplating LRP should absolutely tell his surgeon if he has had a previous surgery.

I do not see that they make recovery any different.
