Is There Hope?

On my 25th birthday after suffering a water infection I was diagnosed with acute prostatitus, after months of poking the infection with short courses of antibiotics it went chronic, I'm now 27 an have been cycling between Trimithiprim, Doxy and Cipro to keep the infection under control ever since. All the urologists I've seen have said it should burn its self out in 5-10 years, I don't know what to think as I've seen a lot of guys online who've had this condition for 10 years plus an seen no…See More

"orfloxasin seems to be dampening the simptoms down a little more today, I don't think this drug is going to work for much longer :-("

What is your score on the Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (posted on home page)?
I don't know
If you have been diagnosed with prostatitis, please tell us your story: age, duration of symptoms, treatments, results, and the like.
I'm 27 years old, after a water infection turned into acute prostatitis at the age of 25 I have been suffering with chronic bacterial prostatitis ever since. The only treatment has been to cycle through three anti biotics, cipro, doxy and trimithiprim, most recently I have been on Orfoxysin but after six months it seems to be loosing its effectivness.
When the anti biotics are working the simptoms are managable, but then I have to contend with joint and tendon inflamation, not to mention the bad gut assosiated with long term use of anti biotics. When simptoms flair up, I have what feels like tooth ache behind my genitals, feeling like I'm sat on a golf ball, abdominal pain, the inability to pass urin properly, pain having sex and ejaculating and feeling like I need to pee every 10 min.
Its been going on for over 2 years, I'm begining to panic that my life will never be normal again and feel very alone in this as its embarising to talk about and most of the time people who haven't experienced it can't understand.
I've tried saw plamento which seemed to give me better ejaculation and errections and recently have started taking pro biotic pills, in a hope that the good bacteria mite compete for ground in my prostate (wishfull thinking I know).
I'm starting to consider surgery as I now have been blessed with a daughter and am struggling to keep it together working and looking after a family with this constant pain. I don't know if I would be eligable for surgery and don't know if the nerves down there would be damaged leaving me unable to enjoy sex for the rest of my life.
The doctors keep telling me, it will burn its self out in 5 to 10 years or you will learn to live with it... they obviously haven't had prostatitus and I get the feeling they are only saying that so I have a light at the end of the tunnel to look for, either that ir they know they will be retired in 5 to 10 years.
On paper this condition doesn't seem that big an issue but dipsite my best efforts to man up and remember there are millions worse off than me, I can't ignor how life changing its been for me and my partner. I'm not the same man I was two years ago, my mood is alway low, I'm constantly iritable and depressed, I used to be very fit, running and weight lifting, into martial arts, always going out and socialising, fond of a few drinks and generally a happy out going guy, this is no longer the case, I am extemely luck y my partner loves me enough to put up with me.
I hope their really is a light at the end of the tunnel even if it involves surgery. I know there are loads of guys out there who have it worse than me but I am struggling to cope.
