Good question. With no good answer. So far, the prevalence of cancer in the men with severe chronic prostatitis is 60%.
There was one other interesting finding on the last patient. He had cancer but he also had granulomatous prostatitis. Granulomas form in response to all sorts of agents, including tuberculosis and trauma. This man had intra-prostatic injections as part of his prostatitis treatments. The diffuse scattered granulomas are quite possible a reaction to the needles and the trauma they caused.
