"Hi John, I am in Sunny Birmingham. Glad to hear that you are having a break from some of the symptoms. I haven't had the feverish symptoms since my first bout back in March 11. I usually get myself back to the docs for more cipro or floxin as…"

"Hi John, You have my sympathies. I experienced exactly the same start to the prostatitis problem as yourself, with symptoms of feverishness, heavy sweating and chills plus the urinary problems. This is the acute form which if treated properly is the…"

If you have been diagnosed with prostatitis, please tell us your story: age, duration of symptoms, treatments, results, and the like.
Age 55.
Had it since March 2011.
Used a vacuum developer for a couple of weeks (stupid I know) I believe that the lubrication I used was infected with something as
I noticed a strong bad smell after I had used it. The developer was a tight fit and it may have forced the lube down my penis.
I have been too embarrassed to tell my doctors about this. The symptoms of acute prostatitis came on very quickly. Feverish, pain on urination, difficulty passing urine, constipation, heavy sweating, pain down inside of legs. Was given Trimethroprim for 7 days for an ecoli uti. This got rid of the uti but I was left with very watery yellowish semen and pain in tip of penis. My gp sent me for a blood test. Psa level was high at 10.5. Sent to urologist who thought that the jump in psa was due to the infection. Prostate showed some hardness on dre examination. Sent for biopsy just to be on the safe side. Result of biopsy showed a lot of inflamed tissue. Was given 1 month course of cipro. Went for another blood test, psa down to 6.
After that point I had a few episodes of symptoms ranging from burning sensation in my anus and pain in perineum - each time I returned to my GP for another course of antibiotics which have eventually alleviated the symptoms. Just after Christmas of this year I went through a bad period where symptoms returned. I tried to get by without antibiotics but burning on urination became evident so I had to return for another course of antibiotics. This coincided with another blood test before another appointment with the urologist. Alarmingly my psa had risen to 17.
I was given a months course of ofloxacin and saw the urologist again after 3 months. My psa had fallen back to 7.5. He was talking about the possibility of another biopsy based on my high psa. He has since taken another urine and semen sample. He has told me to drink pomegranate juice, take sitz baths and ejaculate regularly.
I am awaiting another appointment.
At no time have I been given more than 1 months course of cipro or ofloxacin. I feel that these courses have been insufficient.

The symptoms I am suffering with mainly are burning pain and feeling of swelling in rectal area and discomfort in perineum. Sitting for long periods make it worse, standing makes it better and lying down even better. I find it difficult to relay all of this information to my GP or urologist through embarrassment.
