If you have been diagnosed with prostatitis, please tell us your story: age, duration of symptoms, treatments, results, and the like.
My first symptoms were a burning sensation when I urinated. I was taken through all of the usual treatments for prostatitis. Rounds of antibiotics, testing for infections and digital exams. After months of this there was no discernible improvement. Now in addition to the burning sensation when I urinate I'm randomly having short very sharp and very intense surges of pain in the tip of my penis. First tested by my family doctor and then referred to a urologist neither could seem to do much of anything to help my pain. Eventually the urologist recommended that I contact a pain management clinic which I did. Its been about 9 months now since I started treatment. We have tried a number of pain relievers and in different combinations. Gabapentin,Desaprimine,Topomax,Carbamazepine none of which have worked. Now I am using a Butrans narcotic patch with Lyrica,Tramadol and Methadone for breakthrough. I'm fairly comfortable right now but I've only been on this combination a couple of weeks. I'm so tired of dealing with this. It's been more than two years now. I want to join this website to see how others cope with their pain and to keep abreast of the latest research.
