Prostatitis Forum & Social Network

Acute and chronic prostatitis discussion. Arnon Krongrad, MD, moderator.

On an online forum related to chronic pain, participants seemed convinced that women get relatively lousy pain management. One said specifically that "at least men don't have to hear that pain 'is all in your head' and to 'just learn to live with it.'"

Given the experience on this network that hardly seemed right and so I said, which was not well received. The opinion prevailed that men's pain is treated better than women's.

Is there a gender bias favoring men in the treatment of pain?

Its the first I have heard of it..!!!
Well, Nik, feast your eyes on this resolution designating the month of September 2010 as "Women in Pain
Awareness Month
" in Pennsylvania to recognize the need to raise awareness concerning gender disparity in pain assessment and treatment.

The basis for this is not yet clear and the phenomenon is not one I've heard of before. So ... curious about it. Certainly the members of this network share plenty of stories of frustation when it comes to pain management. And they are men.
