"Jeffos, one more thing, I certainly subscribe to your philosophy that one should not make a bad situation worse if at all possible.  "

"Thanks jeffos, I was only relating to things I have read, definitely not endorsing it.  The posts I have read concerning it were favorable from a doctor "Duke" Bahn, who does it in Ventura, California.  There are all kinds…"

"Wow supantha, I am so sorry for your situation, and obviously I hope I have a better experience.  I am in the states where they have several doctors trying antibiotic cocktail injections directly into the prostate.…"

"supantha, I am not disagreeing with you about eps being diagnostic through the prostatic fluid, what I am saying is that if the bacteria could be found in a urine or semen culture it might be enough.  As far a your doctor saying you could not…"

"Hi jeffos, yes that is the classic test.  However, I think another reason it is not frequently done is they believe it is easy enough to do a urine culture to find the bacteria, if it is there.  Problem with that is that the urine culture…"

"Actually that is not correct Supantha.  Bacteria will show up, and it did show up in my semen which matched the same one found it the urine culture.  That is the whole point for a lot of folks who have chronic bacterial prostatitis, it is…"

"You should also request a Semen culture in addition to the urine culture.  Too many Doctors assume that all they need is a urine culture, but if we are truly dealing with a bacterial prostatitis, the semen will be the gold standard"

"Actually everyones reaction to medicines is very individual.  What causes side-effects in one person is fine for another. I certainly hope they at least did a urine culture which identified the bacteria, and which antibiotics it was sensitive…"

What is your score on the Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (posted on home page)?

If you have been diagnosed with prostatitis, please tell us your story: age, duration of symptoms, treatments, results, and the like.
65 year old male. Had a 15 core prostate biopsy on April 28. 2 days latter fever and chills developed. Doctor prescribed 500 mg Levaquin once a day for 14 days. Unfortunately my urologist was out on sick leave. I should have demanded a culture. 4 days after I finished the levaquin the fever, chills returned with burring urination. Went into urgent care. Requested a CBC, urinalysis, and lab work, along with a culture of the urine a blood. Unfortunately my urologist was still out, and the original urologist told the urgent care doctor to continue with the levaquin until the culture results came back. Blood cultures were negative, but the urine culture came back with e-coli, resistant to levaquin, but sensitive to bactrim. My urologist came bad from sick leave and had me take the bacterim for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, 8 days later the infection returned, urine culture showed e-coli resistant to fluoroquinolones but sensitive to bactrim, and other antibiotics. Restarted the bactrim for 6 weeks. Finished the Bactrim 7 days ago, but am concerned that the UTI might be coming back because of a potential low grade temperature. Started Solaray D-Mannose CranActin 4 times a day, but because of mild urination symptoms, and low grade temperature conceded that it is coming back. Urologist indicated if it returns he might recommend a TURP, which I am not thrilled about. He also suggested that they might try IV antibiotics for four weeks first if it didn't work. Pretty depressed about the options, and would appreciate any suggestions and or treatment options. Thanks

Noote: Couldn't find the Prostatitis symptom index on the home page, so I just assigned a number which may not be correct
