Profile Information

If you have been diagnosed with prostatitis, please tell us your story: age, duration of symptoms, treatments, results, and the like.
1) Can a man as young as 19 have prostatitis? Let me tell you my story. I would like to share my story from a wife’s perspective. Hopefully this will help those that need affirmation that they are not imagining this and this really does happen to a young man. I have been married for 31 years and 30 of those years my husband has had some form/level of (chronic, acute) prostatitis. He is 49 years old and has been to at least 7 urologists and countless doctors/specialists and had many tests and procedures over the years. I have watched him take many medications including antibiotics, herbs, gimmick pills etc and only have it subside somewhat or return with a vengeance once treatment was done. Always trying to find out what is wrong and how to make it better was exhausting. I truly believe this lead to many other physical and mental problems for him as well. Vacation days became used for sick days. I watched as it became very difficult for him to perform on his job over the years to the point of him no longer being able to work. He had many symptoms such as pain, aches (flu like), headaches, backache, severe bowel problems, problems urinating, numbness, fatigue, fever, depression, decreased mental ability, and the list goes on. I thought he is too young for this, what is wrong with him? Is it in his mind? My dad or brother was never like this. Will our children be affected? Will this end?
We have raised 4 sons during this time and it affected our family/spiritual/financial life.
There would be unpredictability of the flair ups or prolonged flair ups which made it difficult to plan things or to make sure there would be restroom facilities etc available. There was a financial strain as well even with insurance. He would not feel well most of the time and tried very hard to ignore it for “the family’s sake”, BUT this is something that you can’t ignore. MORE TO COME……….

Hi Kim, so glad to have you join! Sorry I have been away from my computer for a few days. So you are six days post-op, Congradulations! Each day is a gift of distance from the horrors of prostatitis. I have not looked all over the site yet but have you, or your husband written "Your Story" of what you have been through? I would like to read it since I have always been interested in what others have experienced. Sue
