Effects of other illnesses on CP/CPPS?

For the past 2 years I've had really severe pain symptoms, and been taking max normal doses of ibu profen, and paracetemol as required. Then in Feb this year, I got a winter bug of some sort and whilst I had it the CP/CPPS symptoms very much diminished, then came back once the bug went. I then got a sickness bug for several days, and the CP/CPPS symptoms near enough disappeared (ok they were still there but very quiet). I was totally pain killer free for 2 months following that until last week. This could indicate an immune over-reaction is going on to some stimulus I guess, and the other bug has quelled the over-reaction?

Has anyone else had experience of other illnesses affecting symptoms? Are there treatments that could harness this effect?

Dave,
I have other symptoms also. I feel like I have the flu almost everyday( I get body aches, back pain etc). I take ibuprofen which helps. I've had many tests but all they show is a high white blood count. I went to different doctors and no one can tell me for sure what I have or if it's related to my prostate. It's interesting that you have simmilar symptoms.
I had flu like symptoms for 1 year solid. Fevers chills weak could hardly move. Finally the flu symptoms went away one day like magic. The prostatitis remained. My guess is the body got use to the illness and adapted. one doctor told me that the fevers were due to my mind telling my body to get sick. Needless to say that doctor is no longer on my list.

trust me guys if you have prostatitis symptoms and flu like symptoms. The prostate is the culprit
Maybe I didn't ask so clearly ... what I was interested in is whether other passing illnesses that you might pick up have had a positive effect on the CP/CPPS symptoms; when I picked up this brief stomach bug it seemed to significantly calm the CP/CPPS symptoms - as good an effect as when I've had success with antibiotics - zero pain killers for 2 months. Seems similar to when my daughter who had bad eczema got chicken pox the eczema near enough disappeared - this is a seemingly well known effect of secondary illnesses on immune-overeaction type problems.

So that makes me wonder if some CP/CPPS is partially an immune over-reaction to something, either bacteria or perhaps something otherwise innocuous. (i have asthma myself, so the over-reacting immune system is there) And if so then is it possible to regulate the CP/CPPS symptoms also.
I have noticed the complete opposite. If I am sick the prostate acts up even more....
Every time I got fever for whatever reason, I catch a new symptom that i usually don't have: it burns when i pee.
But the other symptoms CP/CPPS are not getting worse neither better.
My symptoms stay the same whether I am sick or not.
yes the first year and a half i felt like i had the flu constantly . then one day it was gone . but i was so tired for a couple months after . like i had been in a bad fight and lost!

I am a firm believer that when you have a chronic condition, such as chronic prostatitis, the body does not react immunologically like it does to an acute illness... So, theoretically in my view, when you are hit with an acute infection, the body comes out fighting, and the release of immunologic cells and endorphins, etc., knock down the prostatitis also... Then, when the immune system has conquered the acute illness, it again lets its guard down, and the chronic prostatitis rears it's ugly head again.... That is just my theory though..
Yeah maybe, but for me once it had gone it stayed away for two months - the illness I had was a 1 day thing.

Crazy! I noticed the same thing happen me. I had a bad sinus infection that totaly drained my energy. It turned into brochitis . I thought it was strange how my symptoms almost disapeared during this infection.
