Prostatitis Forum & Social Network
Acute and chronic prostatitis discussion. Arnon Krongrad, MD, moderator.
A patient reported this morning that his prostatitis got worse after what he called "deep tissue massage." It would appear that this massage was not prostate massage or pelvic myofascial release. It's hard to explain how this might be cause and effect.
Has anyone else had this kind of experience after massage?

I believe my therapist called it pelvic myofascial release.
Prostate massage, pelvic myofascial release, and deep tissue (general) massage are three different approaches to symptomatic relief. While all rely on physical touch, they target different sites. One should not substitute one for the other.
The patient referenced above was reporting symptomatic intensification after deep tissue massage, not prostate massage and not pelvic myofascial release.
