ONE MONTH AFTER LRP FOR CHRONIC PROSTATITIS ( UPDATE)

Today March 1, 2009 marked exactly one month after my laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for chronic prostatitis with Dr. Krongrad. I had LRP on 1/29/09 and foley catheter was removed on 2/10/09. Discontinuation of foley catheter was uneventfull although I had occassionally small blood tinged urine which has subsided. I am still having urine leakage especially when I have fully blader. I am still recovering and I feel I need more time to be 100% again. I take motrin 800mg once or twic a day for surgery discomfort. But generally the chronic prostatitis, I mean the fatigue and debilitating pain which was my main reason for LRP is gone. I am free from antibiotics and strong narcotic pain medicine.

Great news IKE & thanks for your update-much appreciated. At 1 month, your dissolvable sutures would not even be fully dissolved yet. I believe they can take up to 6 weeks which means your sphincter may not yet have its full range of motion back, so there may even be noticeable improvement in another couple of weeks with regards to leakage. Even so, I am sure by three months any leakage will be minimal or gone, like the majority who have LRP in expert hands.
Great to hear the prostatitis pain & fatigue is gone & now only healing pain left which no longer needs narcotics. Most importantly of all of course is that your cancer was brought to a swift halt..!!
I look forward to your your continuing recovery, and to hear your next update.

All the best

Thanks for your update, it is good to hear that your pain is gone.
May I ask you a question: did your urologist identify the bacteria which infects your prostate when you were ill, or have you been diagnosed as non-bacterial prostatitis?

best wishes
